Rush Limbaugh is claiming that the actual history of the Stars and Bars is not being truthfully reported. I wonder if people care anymore about the truth.
Rush, a conservative talk show host, is claiming that it’s the Democrats who are “responsible” for the Confederate flag being raised over the statehouse in South Carolina. That being the case it stands to reason that that it should be the Democrats that bring down the flag, not the Republicans. “Do people even care anymore about the truth – the objective truth? When did this become a Republican problem? Don’t people care about this stuff anymore? Does it matter?” Limbaugh asks.
The blame, if blame is to be placed, for putting the Confederate flag over the statehouse goes to former Democratic Senator Earnest “Fritz” Hollings, who served in the Senate in 1962, according to Limbaugh. “When did all this become a Republican problem? Who wrote the lyrics of the song, “Dixie?” …If you go to Arkansas, you know, all these old racial segregationists, they’re all Democrats,” Limbaugh continued. “Bill Clinton’s mentor from Arkansas, J. William Fullbright, was a proud segregationist. And Bill Clinton signed a proclamation authorizing the Confederate flag to fly over the statehouse.”
The 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign button featured the Confederate flag, though it wasn’t immediately clear if it was an official part of the presidential campaign.
“When did the Republicans get involved in this?” Limbaugh concluded.
