Furious 7 has just become the highest grossing movie in history… the history of China. The American blockbuster has now grossed over $324 million in China since its release and has just passed up the previous record holder, Transformers: Age Of Extinction, which had grossed a cool $319 million. To date, and somewhat surprisingly, Furious 7 has grossed more at the box office in China than it has at home in the United States ($320M).
Furious is still dominating the box office here at home, holding the top spot on the list each of the past 4 weeks, grossing $17.8 million this past weekend, keeping at bay its two closest challengers, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, and The Age Of Adeline, earning $14.7M and $13.2M respectively. Looking at the numbers, Furious 7 is ahead of its predecessor, Fast & Furious 6, by $100 million on a days released comparison.
Furious 7 also has the distinction of becoming the first action movie bring in over $1 billion worldwide! Not bad for a 6th sequel to a movie that grossed a total of $206.5 million back in 2001. To put things in perspective… Furious 7, now at $1.32B, has now grossed more than Frozen ($1.27B). Looking forward to the recently set release date for Furious 8 which is set to hit the big screen on 4/14/2017, we can only wait to see it 8 will be the new highest grossing movie of all time.
