Just when you thought the schools have done everything possible to confuse our children, then you read a headline like “schools to teach that gender is a choice”. Unfortunately, it’s true. One of the largest school systems in the nation is preparing to teach that there is no such thing a 100% boy or a 100% girl. This is going to be part of their curriculum this year. The public schools in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia have presented a report stating that they will not be teaching their family life classes the same this year for students from 7th grade to 12th grade.
“The larger picture is that this is really an attack on nature itself – the created order,” said Peter Spriggs of the Family Research Council. “Human beings are created male and female. But the current transgender ideology goes way beyond that. They’re telling us you can be both genders; you can be a gender that you make up for yourself. And we’re supposed to affirm all of it.”
Seventh graders will be taught about transgender lifestyle choices. Tenth graders are to be taught that there is far more to sexuality than just male and female—it seems that this is just another way to indoctrinate our children rather than teaching them.
As for the middle school students… “Students will be provided definitions for sexual orientation terms heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality; and the gender identity term transgender,” the district’s recommendations state. “Emphasis will be placed on recognizing that everyone is experiencing changes, and the role of respectful, inclusive language in promoting an environment free of bias and discrimination.”
Children in the eighth grade will be taught that individual identity “occurs over a lifetime and includes the component of sexual orientation and gender identity. It will be taught that individual identity has four parts – biological gender, gender identity (includes transgender), gender role, and sexual orientation (includes heterosexual, bisexual and homosexual).”
“Emphasis will be placed on an understanding that there is a broader, boundless and fluid spectrum of sexuality that is developed throughout a lifetime.” the documents stated. “Sexual orientation and gender identity terms will be discussed with focus on appreciation for individual differences.”
Parents throughout the country that have learned of this new teaching direction are disturbed by the decision to teach these alternative theories. “Parents need to protect their kids from this assault.” said Andrea Lafferty, president of Traditional Values Coalition. “Who could imagine that we are in this place today – but we are.”
The school board has voted to include the gender identity with the district’s non-discrimination policy. This decision was strongly opposed by the parents. Lafferty, who lead the opposition to the nondiscrimination policy, warned all in attendance that the district is moving closer to the deconstruction of gender.
John Torre, spokesman for the School Board stated to the Washington Times that this proposed curriculum changes have nothing to do with last week’s vote to allow boys who indentify as girls to use the bathrooms and locker rooms of their choice.
Lafferty told the parents that they will not be allowed to opt their children out of the lessons because the lessons will be a part of the mandatory health curriculum. However, Torre stated that the parents will indeed be able to opt their children out of classes “including the sexual orientation and gender identity lessons,”. Many parents don’t know about the alternative teaching, and as such, wouldn’t have the ability to opt their children out of the teaching. “They are not being forthright with the information,” Lafferty said. “They are not telling people the truth. They are bullying the parents. They are intimidating and they are threatening.”
In my reading of the Bible it states that God created male and female and not dozens of other options. The school district was asked to provide the textbooks and scientific data they will be using for instructing the kids that there are dozens of other options. Interestingly, here is the reply given by Mr. Torre: “Lessons have not been developed for the proposed lesson objectives,” he stated. “Because of the need to develop lessons, the proposed objective would not be implemented until fall 2016.”
And Mr. Springs of the Family Research Council noted that there’s a pretty good reason why they can’t produce a textbook about the subject. He said, “It’s an ideological concept, not a scientific one.” He warned that the county’s intentions could be harmful to students. “It’s only going create more confusion in the minds of young people who don’t need any further confusion about sexual identity,” he said.
I can’t believe that any parent has their children in this school and I’m worried about other schools adopting similar curriculum. Home schooling is looking better and better. Maybe this is the indoctrination that Obama wanted to make sure your children didn’t miss in private schools. The majority of citizens don’t want schools to teach that gender is a choice
